Bob Basham, Owner

Bob is a native of Boise and has enjoyed woodworking since he was young. In high school, he built a cedar strip canoe from a single piece of western red cedar.  It took 3 years to get it finished and out of his parent’s garage. It is still used today! A decade ago, Bob custom-built a CNC machine in his personal shop for his many projects, which he used to custom build new kitchen cabinets from Balitc Birch and cabinet fronts from local Siberian Elm slabs. Connections made through the kitchen remodeling process led Bob to begin flattening slabs for local woodworkers and learning about the process of furniture making. He saw the benefit in closing the loop in the urban forest life cycle. Instead of going to the landfill, these trees were being made into beautiful furniture pieces for people to enjoy. He recognized that the kiln drying piece of the tree-to-furniture process was missing in Boise. Welhous Studio was created to fill that need. In his spare time, you will find Bob working at his other job as a Product Developer, spending time with his family, or working in his home shop space–basically he enjoys spending his free time working, unless Megan tells him he needs to take a break

Megan Basham, Owner

Megan has lived in Boise since 2006, and up until now, allowed Bob the time to work in his shop on the weekends for fun (now it’s a little more work). After learning more about the woodworking process, the urban forest, and the opportunity to close the loop on the urban wood life cycle, she agreed to join Bob in opening Welhous Studio. She recognizes that keeping trees out of the landfill and finding ways to repurpose and enjoy the urban forest benefits the entire community and is excited to be part of the solution. She is the Administrative and Marketing Manager for Welhous Studio. In her spare time, you will find her spending time with family, painting, going to yoga classes, taking walks in the North End, and patiently waiting for the kitchen remodel to be finished.
